Journey: Experience a Traditional Wedding in the Highlands of Tuyen Quang

Tour Overview

This is not a staged performance or a ceremony recreated for tourism. The journey is only organized when a local family voluntarily agrees to welcome the group as guests on the wedding day. During the 3-day, 2-night journey, guests will stay at a local homestay, learn about village life, accompany a family during the wedding preparations, learn about traditional customs, and attend the wedding of a family from a local ethnic community as invited guests. Each journey is only organized when a wedding is taking place in the village, and the program is only confirmed when the bride, groom and both families voluntarily agree to welcome the group as guests. The family’s privacy and decisions are always given priority throughout the journey.

Highlights

  • Attend the wedding of a local family as invited guests, after receiving the consent of the bride, groom and both families
  • Stay at a stilt-house homestay and share daily life with the host family
  • Take part in preparations and wedding-day customs of the highland community
  • Join seasonal daily or agricultural activities with the hosts when suitable
  • Experience authentic highland hospitality beyond staged tourism shows
Day-by-day Itinerary

DAY 1: HANOI – A HIGHLAND VILLAGE IN TUYEN QUANG (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Afternoon: Guests will walk around the village with the host family, visit the garden and livestock areas, and learn how local residents care for their animals, harvest vegetables and carry out their everyday work. This is an opportunity to experience the slow, simple yet vibrant rhythm of life in the highlands.

Evening: Guests will prepare a traditional meal together with the family and enjoy dishes made from local ingredients. After dinner, everyone will gather around the fire and listen to stories about wedding customs, daily life, beliefs and the culture of the ethnic community—simple stories that contain a rich collection of traditional values. Overnight at the homestay.

DAY 2: ACCOMPANYING THE FAMILY ON THE WEDDING DAY – ATTENDING A TRADITIONAL WEDDING (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Afternoon: The atmosphere in the village becomes livelier as everyone prepares for the celebration. Guests may observe or assist with suitable tasks such as arranging tables, preparing vegetables, decorating the venue or carrying out other activities under the family’s guidance. Each stage reflects the strong bonds within the community and the spirit of sharing among highland residents. When the wedding rituals begin, guests will become part of the formal yet warm atmosphere of a genuine traditional wedding. Guests may offer their congratulations to the bride and groom and share a meal with the family. Drinking local rice wine is entirely voluntary. Guests can listen to the joyful laughter and experience the sincerity with which local people welcome visitors from afar. This is not only a wedding feast but also an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the values of family and community, as well as the cultural traditions that continue to be preserved in the mountains of Tuyen Quang. Overnight at the homestay.

DAY 3: FAREWELL TO THE VILLAGE Breakfast and Lunch

06:00: Guests will wake up, enjoy the highland atmosphere and have breakfast at the homestay. After breakfast, guests may enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the village. If the departure date coincides with the local market schedule and time permits, the group may visit a local market. This activity cannot be guaranteed on every journey. Lunch: Before saying goodbye, guests will share an intimate meal with the host family. Handshakes, farewells and warm, genuine smiles will bring the journey to a close with unforgettable memories.

13:30: Guests will board the vehicle and return to Hanoi, concluding the program. We look forward to welcoming you on future journeys.

Wedding attire

  • Non-slip shoes for village walks, kitchen, and garden; you may change to neater shoes at the ceremony.
  • A seasonal jacket — mountain mornings and evenings can be cold.

Luggage & money

  • Travel light for a stilt-house homestay; avoid bulky luggage on the wedding day.
  • Carry VND; highland-village Wi-Fi may be unstable or unavailable.

Also bring

  • A valid passport; personal medication.
  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellent if needed.
  • A power bank and a camera/phone — always ask before photographing.

Weather & Safety Notes

Weather

  • Highland Tuyen Quang: cool mornings and evenings. The wedding-day timetable follows the family, not a fixed clock.

Safety & children

  • Children must be supervised by an adult in kitchens, livestock areas, and the wedding venue.
  • Some wedding-prep tasks may not suit young children and will be adjusted.
  • There is no lake-boat excursion on this program.

Respect a real wedding

  • The trip runs only when a real village wedding is happening and the family agrees to welcome guests — not a staged show.
  • Rituals vary by ethnic group and family; keep noise down and do not interrupt ceremonies.
  • Ask before photos; do not enter worship areas unless invited; small groups protect the family’s private space.
